Cybercrime can be committed in your name; Make a step to verify how many people are connected to your Ghana Card- Kofi Adoma admonishes.

The broadcast journalist has made claims that one’s ECOWAS card, widely known as Ghana Card can likely have more than the owner connected to it.

The Ghana card has been the primary document for the registration of one’s SIM card in the ongoing SIM card re-registration exercise in Ghana.

Kofi Adoma speaking from experience said he made the move to his telecom network operators- to be specific MTN to enquire how many people his Ghana Card has registered in the ongoing SIM card registration exercise.

Even though he is yet to be given the exact number of people his card has registered, he is suspicious about the fact that other people might be registered in his name.

Why is he suspicious, and why should one make such an inquiry?

According to him, some people have started selling registered SIM cards to other people.

This is weird in the sense that, no SIM card can be registered without the person’s identity card- a Ghana card.

So how come people are selling already registered SIM cards, he asked.

Kofi drew attention to some fraudulent acts of some of the personnel in charge of the registration at the various registration centers.

During the registration, getting to the tail end of the registration process, after your card has been scanned, and your fingerprints have been collected, the one in charge will then tell you the process need to be retaken for the network wasn't stable or there was some mishap along the line.

So they will go all over again to register you. He said, what shows the first process wasn't successful.

The first process which they claim want successful has registered another SIM and will be sold to these fraudsters for cybercrime and you will be arrested for your particulars will lead the trace by police.

Kofi Adoma said he got fascinated by to require how safe his particulars are when he followed a case involving an arrested innocent person whose card has been used for a fraudulent act.

The culprit had no idea about the charges but everything indicated he has committed such a crime.

His contact with the police added to the suspicion that this can be real. Kofi said, according to information gathered from the police, they have been tracing people who have no idea about a cybercrime but whose particulars are contained on the SIM.

He added that the police are facing some challenges in tracing the prime culprits involved in cyber crimes.

Kofi then urged the NCA to develop a short code that can reveal how many people are connected to one’s Ghana card.

He also admonished that, citizens must take the step to enquire from their telecoms to be sure they are safe.
